Renew for freedom
Some first time passport applicants in Glasgow are now being summoned to the new interrogation centre in Blythswood House, West Regent Street. The Identity and Passport Service plan to soon start demanding interviews from all passport applicants. At the interrogation, the interviewer will have a dossier containing personal information about you - information gleaned from many government departments. They will then ask questions on the basis of the dossier - about your doctor, your education, etc. They will also record biometrics, e.g. fingerprints, iris scans, digital photos. The purpose of these interviews is to help them build a National Identity Register - an intrusive database that will provide links to most of the data that the government holds on you as well as recording the details every time you use an ID card.
To avoid registration on the ID database, renew your passport before they get a chance to summon you to an interrogation. See the Renew for Freedom website for more details.
