26 October 2009 – ID management and privacy in Scotland
We mostly discussed the Scottish Government's consultation paper on identity management and privacy.
The main part of the meeting was devoted to discussion of the Scottish Government's consultation paper "Privacy and Public Confidence in Scottish Public Services: Draft Identity Management and Privacy Principles". A printable version was also available.

Public comments had been invited, for which the deadline was 23rd November 2009. NO2ID members were encouraged to submit comments individually, to complement the submission from NO2ID Scotland.
Commendable
Overall, the document seemed a very commendable first draft and it was good that the Scottish government was taking this initiative. It was emphasized several times that it was important explicitly to approve of significant paragraphs so as to counteract possible negative comments from others.
There was a detailed discussion of the document, section by section.
Manchester
There was also a short report on NO2ID's Day of Action in Manchester on 17 October, when four members of the Edinburgh group had participated and had set up their street stall outside Piccadilly station.

Next meeting
Invitations to Edinburgh's four Labour MPs to speak at a meeting had been unsuccessful. Efforts were now being made to invite any member of the Labour Party who was willing to come to defend ID cards.
