MSP Positions

At the beginning of November 2004 I wrote to all Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) (*) introducing NO2ID and enclosing a brief survey regarding their views on Identity Cards. These pages list the responses received.

Stewart Stevenson MSP
Scottish National Party, Banff and Buchan

As a member of the Scottish National Party, I subscribe to the undernoted view, which was passed by the party membership in 2001:
In the belief that a state requires the consent of the people to exist, but that people do not require the consent of the state, the SNP will resist any proposal to introduce compulsory identity cards in a devolved or independent Scotland and will not be party to their introduction.
National Council

(*) Excluding the Presiding Officer who must remain neutral. I have since been informed that serving Ministers are also prohibited from replying to surveys.
